Summary

Description

The monument comprises the remains of a small burial ground

consisting of a rectangular enclosure bounded by a turf covered rubble wall. It measures 28m E-W by 23m N-S with a possible entrance on the west. There are turf covered foundations in the interior, possibly the remains of the chapel structure. The area to be scheduled measures 55m square and its SW side is bounded by a fence as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of National Importance

The monument is of national importance because, as the site of the chapel of Fyrish dedicated to Saint Curitan, it has the potential to enhance our understanding of early medieval chapels and burial practices.
