Summary

Description

Early 18th century house, possibly incorporating older structure, with substantial additions, James Milne 1861. 18th century house is to North: 3-storey, rendered and lined as ashlar, chamfered ashlar margins, moulded skewputs, crowsteps and corniced end stacks. Slated. Newer work coursed squared rubble with droved ashlar dressings. North front 3 bay, blind centre window at 2nd floor, cill of centre window at 1st has been dropped, later two storey projecting wing, rounded to North, piended. West front: two bay gable of 18th century house, 3 storey and attic, joined at South by advanced centre bay of Milne's 1861 work, this carried up 3 storeys with crowstepped chimney gable flanked by conical roofed bartizans. Balancing the gable of the earlier house is a wide

single bay with bipartite at the 1st, principal floor and gabled wall head dormer over, large bartizan at angle with South front. On the South front this is matched by another bartizan, together they flank a two bay gable with centre corbelled chimney stack.

This gable is joined to a second by a recessed two storey crenellated link with bipartite at 1st. The Eastern gable is crowstepped with tripartite at 1st and two windows at second. Slender, round angle tower, corbelled out at second with bellcast conical roof. The East front is plain except at the NE corner where the gable is carried up as a small square tower with crenellated parapet and taller square cap-house at corner. To the NE of the House is a single storey and

basement rectangular outhouse, mainly of rubble with alterations in droved ashlar. Outside stair to upper floor to west. Slated piended roof. Modern garage lean-to to North.

The statement will use the word 'excluding' and quote the relevant section of the 1997 Act. Some earlier listed building records may use the word 'excluding', but if the Act is not quoted, the record has not been revised to reflect subsequent legislation.

Listed building consent is required for changes to a listed building which affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest. The relevant planning authority is the point of contact for applications for listed building consent.
