Description

Mid 19th Century, restored circa 1985. 2-storey, 4-bay terraced former mill houses. Harled, ashlar margins and projecting cills at ground, projecting cills at 1st floor, projecting porch with

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 7 bays at ground, entrance to 3rd bay, piended porch to outer right with entrance in return to left, windows to remaining bays, smaller windows to bays 4 and 5. Regular fenestration above with smaller windows to 2nd bay.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: windows in 5 bays to 1st floor, smaller window to centre.

SW (GABLE) ELEVATION: blank gable wall.

Timber sash and case windows with 12- and 9-pane glazing, pantiles and grey slate, eaves course, skews, gablehead stack with terracotta cans.

Statement of Special Interest

4 and 5 Bonnyhaugh Lane were rebuilt circa 1985 as part of redevelopment work in the area which included the demolition of Bonnington Mills and the relocation of the Mill Wheel in the Common Lawn of Nos 2-7 Bonnyhaugh Lane. Nos 4 and 5 are referred to as Mill Cottages in the Dean of Guild records. There have been mills on this site since the 15th century; they finally closed in 1967, the workings having been electrically operated for the preceding 20 years.

The building was formerly listed at category B as Bonnington Mills Cottages, 71 Newhaven Road, HBNUM 28152.
