Description
Frank Burnet and Boston, 1911-13. 7-storey commercial
building on corner site; 5 x 3 main bays, 3 bays to West
George Street. Polished ashlar with granite plinth and
surround to entrance at 91 West George Street and window in
1st bay from N in West Nile Street. Modern shop in S bay in
West Nile Street; modern entrance at 93 West George Street.
Windows mostly sash and case in architraves with 5-pane
glazing, 3-pane upper sashes. Ground floor arched windows,
(on cill band) keyblocked with timber mullions, architraved,
and corniced windows in outer bays of corner section. Canted
corner bay rising from 1st to 7th floor; sculpted relief
between corbels of canted bay; canted bay in W bay in West
George Street and 5th and 6th bays from N in West Nile Street
with 2nd to 5th floor centre lights linked in architraves,
decorated at 2nd and 5th; consoled cornices at 5th; all
canted bays with dentil cornices at corbelled eaves. Stylised architraves to inner bay with scroll corbels on 2nd floor;
2nd floor moulded cills and sculpted escutcheons below at
canted bays; 7th floor windows panelled between lights;
sculpted reliefs in outer bays. 7th floor cill band.
Symmetrical corner stacks on horizontal sculpted corbels
rising from 1st to 7th storey; dentil cornice to bays.
