Summary

Description

J T Rochead, 1858. Renaissance detailed 3-storey and

basement terrace with flatted raised and advanced end

pavilions, 4-storey W pavilion. Ashlar, channelled at

ground floor.

No 24 recessed door, flanking tripartite windows corniced

with pilaster mullions repeated above with central, lugged

architrave window. Eaves cornice, parapet.

NOS 25, 26, 29 AND 30: 3-bay symmetrical pairs with

recessed doors set to centre with flanking windows; ground

floor cornice, 1st floor cill band, windows with lugged

architraves. Eaves cornice, parapet.

NOS 27 AND 28: 2 bays each, paired entrances to inner bays

flanked by balustraded canted windows rising to 1st floor

with bipartite central window. Ground floor cornice. 1st

floor windows with lugged architraves over entrances; 2

string courses link 1st floor cornice to cill band of 2nd

floor, latter with outer tripartite windows, lugged

architraves. Eaves cornice, parapet.

No 31 ground floor flat, 3 bays at No 24 with added 4th

floor continuing detailing. 4-bay facetted corner. 1st

floor windows divided by pilasters. 2nd and 3rd floor

windows lugged architraves.

10-bay E return to Buckingham Street repeating main

elevation, shorn architraves. 2 close entries and tripartite

main door.

6 bay W return to Queen Margaret Drive: repeating main

detailing in 4 storeys. Corniced axial and wallhead stacks.

Slate roof.

Statement of Special Interest

Although by Rochead, this is a reduced composition with less

innovative design.

Historic Environment Scotland is responsible for designating sites and places at the national level. These designations are Scheduled monuments, Listed buildings, Inventory of gardens and designed landscapes and Inventory of historic battlefields.

Some earlier listed building records may use the word 'excluding', but if the Act is not quoted, the record has not been revised to reflect subsequent legislation.

Listed building consent is required for changes to a listed building which affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest. The relevant planning authority is the point of contact for applications for listed building consent.
