Description
Early 19th century classical villa. 2 storeys, attics and
basement; 3 bays with later full-height additional bay to
left. Polished ashlar with droved ashlar flanks.
Steps oversailing basement to central Doric porch with mutule
cornice and cast-iron balustrade. Pilastered recessed
tripartite doorpiece with astragalled fanlight. Ground floor
windows pilastered and corniced with apron panels. 1st floor
windows architraved with bracketted cills, consoled and
pedimented. Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Blind windows
to left bays. Eaves cornice, blocking course stepped up over
centre. Corniced wall head stacks.
Additional bay to left; single window at 1st with raised
polished margins; eaves cornice. Multi-pane glazing.
E flank; irregular 4-bay elevation with right 3 bays shallow
advanced and pedimented. Windows with raised polished
margins. W flank; windows detailed as above; modern rendered
single storey addition to right. Rear elevation droved
ashlar, detailed as flanks. Timber bipartite dormers with
round-headed lights.
Pair of square corniced ashlar gatepiers. Interior: column
screen to hall, decorative plaster cornice work. Good stained
glass figurative stair window probably by Daniel Cottier.
