Description
Dated 1874. Picturesque Italianate villa 2 storeys and
basement with attic tower feature at SE corner. Droved ashlar
with polished margins and dressings, rusticated basement.
All ground floor windows with recessed margins. Doorway and
most 1st floor windows round headed and flanked by strip
pilasters.
Irregular S elevation with boldly advanced gabled centre bay
of polished ashlar with plain 1/4 columns inset at angles,
continuous band course over ground, to 1st floor cills and
lintels. To 1st, 2 tall arched windows with blind oculus to
spandrel, consoled ashlar balcony.
To left, steps oversailing basement to tripartite arched
doorway with glazed sidelights, carved foliate spandrels,
moulded archivolt with bold keystone. Double-leaf panelled
door, vestibule door with glazed fanlight. Arched window to
1st. Attic tower with tripartites to each face, deeply
overhanging timber bracketted eaves, piended roof.
To extreme right bay, corniced tripartite at ground,
bipartite above.
Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Deeply overhanging
modillion eaves, decorative barge boarding at gable ends,
slate roofs.
Irregular 3-bay flank to S; gabled with 2-storey canted
window splayed above 1st. Band courses continuous with those
of main facade.
Rear elevation stugged coursed ashlar, corniced wallhead
stacks.
Whole surrounded by low coped ashlar wall; supporting modern
cast-iron railings tall square coped ashlar gatepiers. Solid
ashlar parapet to steps with squat end piers.
