Description
Circa 1895. Scots Renaissance style. Housing on
almshouse model. 2-storeys, 13-bay main front with N and
S wings forming courtyard plan. Red snecked rubble with
ashlar dressings. Mainly sash and case windows with
glazing bars in upper panes. Plinth forming ground floor
cill band.
MAIN ELEVATION: bays arranged 1-4-3-4-1 central and
end bays, taller, advanced. Central arched entrance
with double cast-iron gate. Sculpted consoles supporting
die frieze with lettering "WHITEINCH HOMES". Flanking
pedimented windows. 3-light, stone-mullioned and
transomed window above flanked by dormers with shaped
pedimented heads repeated in 2nd floor set-back bays.
Shaped pediment with sculpted tympanum over entrance
bay. Ground floor cornice. 1st floor cill band. Tall,
arched windows in outer bays of set-back sections. Outer
pavilions with large shaped pediments with antefixae
obelisks, escutcheons, finials.
E AND W RETURN ELEVATIONS: outer gabled sections
projecting. Central pedimented window. Simple detailing.
PLAIN COURTYARD ELEVATIONS: repeating main detailing
with shaped pedimented dormers.
