Description

Mills and Shepherd, 1907-9. Long asymmetrical, villa,

stepped-plan, 2-storey, attic and basement, rock-faced

rubble with ashlar dressings.

S elevation: all windows mullioned and transomed with

linking cill courses; 2-storey canted bay to left; 2nd left

bay gabled with slightly canted ground floor window; 3rd bay semi-circular arched garden entrance, deeply inset door with

altered glazing, tripartite over; 4th bay, 3-storey 5-light

mullioned and transomed bow; 5th bay set back, irregular

fenestration and gable, re-entrant angle turret with pyramidal

roof, corbelled out from 1st floor. 2 later small-paned dormers. 2-storey piend-roofed service wing set well back. Buttressed

garden wall with square balustrade and dog-legged stair

to left of bow.

N elevation: square projecting pyramidal-roofed tower to

W with large mullioned and transomed leaded glass stair

window and off-centre entrance beneath armorial. Ornate

wrought-iron grille to porch, window blocked by later

outside stair. Set back bay to right, blind except

quarter-circular turret in re-entrant. Service wing advanced

to left, gabled with off-centre stack and modern projection.

Ashlar stacks, piended and gabled swept slate roofs, lead

caps to turrets, ornate finials removed. Sash and case

windows, 4-pane upper cases and, to S elevation, single-pane

lower cases.

BOUNDARY WALL to Perth Road, semi-cylindrical, conical-capped

gatepiers.

Historic Environment Scotland is responsible for designating sites and places at the national level. These designations are Scheduled monuments, Listed buildings, Inventory of gardens and designed landscapes and Inventory of historic battlefields.
