Description

Mid to later 19th century. 2-storey and basement, square plan

villa. Squared red rubble to E and S with ashlar N and W

elevations and dressings. Slate roof. Obliquely set, linked

diamond stacks to advanced chimney breasts on N and S fronts.

Decorative finials. Plate glass sashes on main frontage,

small-pane glazing elsewhere.

W ENTRANCE FRONT: 3-bay; advanced wide gabled central porch,

with bolection moulding door surround, hoodmould above

stepping over panel. Hoodmoulded single window above small

windows in gabled attic. Wider shallow advanced flanking bays

with canted windows to ground and 1st floor. Blind slits with

hoodmoulds in flanking gable heads and central pediment.

3-light, canted bays to ground and 1st floor, with blocking

course. Balcony supported on stone volutes hugging canted

bays and corners with decorative wrought-iron balustrade.

Stone flight of steps bridging basement recess.

E ELEVATION: 3 bays with projecting 2-light window alteration

to left ground floor. Skewputted, finialled gablet heads with

blind slits.

W AND S FRONTS: smaller E gables recessed, larger advanced

gable to W. False windows on chimney breasts of N side.

Random windows in between.

Rubble entrance wall and square, capped ashlar piers (reset).

LODGE: contemporary with house. Single storey: rectangle

plan. Snecked squared rubble with stugged ashlar dressings

and base course. Ashlar E, N and W elevations. Slate roof;

gabletted skews. Paired, octagonal flues to gable stacks.

Small pane glazing pattern.

N ENTRANCE FRONT: advanced gabled doorway with strip fanlight

and panel above. 2-light window to left, single light to

right. Low parapet wall and decorative wrought-iron railings.

REAR S ELEVATION: 4-bay skewputted gablet heads over windows

breaking eaves with narrow arch slits to each bay. Modern

dormer addition to E. E elevation blank with advanced chimney

breast; mirrored on W side with flanking windows.
